People thrive when they have access to life’s most basic needs. That’s why much of JFS Rochester’s work focuses on providing a range of essential services that help individuals and families in our community meet their basic needs.
JFS Rochester provides assistance with basic needs such as food, housing, and school supplies to individuals and families. These programs are designed to provide critical support to individuals and families in our community who are facing difficult times.
JFS serves the Greater Rochester community with a commitment to addressing essential human needs, promoting self-sufficiency, and fostering social and economic empowerment. Programs include one-time financial assistance that help individuals and families unable to make ends meet. We also offer access to essential resources, such as food, transportation, and school supplies, that help people maintain their quality of life. Anyone who accesses our basic needs resources, will be asked if they have other needs that JFS may be able to help with; our goal is to meet the needs of whole people and families.
The Brighton Food Cupboard at JFS helps reduce and prevent hunger and food insecurity for people living in Brighton and surrounding communities. Weekly food deliveries, including Kosher, vegetarian, and gluten free options, are made directly to individuals and families.
Emergency Financial Assistance JFS Rochester recognizes that unexpected financial emergencies can happen to anyone at any time, and they can have a major impact on one’s ability to make ends meet.
The Pencils & Paper Program at JFS Rochester serves the educational and creative needs of children in the greater Rochester area by providing free school supplies to teachers in high need schools.
JFS Rochester delivers holistic programming and resource connections to residents at The Rochester Highlands, a local affordable housing complex. Programming for residents includes care management, nursing services, educational workshops, health and wellness offerings, and child-focused activities.
Every year JFS Rochster distributes hundreds of holiday baskets for all major Jewish holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, ensuring all in our community has support during multiple holiday seasons
