Strengthening and Supporting the Community: The Inclusive Programs of Jewish Family Services of Rochester

JFS has a long history of serving the Greater Rochester community, providing essential human services to those in need for over a century. JFS is a community organization that is often perceived as catering exclusively to the Jewish population, however, all of our programs are inclusive and available to anyone in need, regardless of their religious background. In fact, only 20% of the people we serve identify as Jewish. Our commitment to serving all members of the community is rooted in the belief that every person deserves access to resources and support that can improve their well-being. JFS recognizes that human needs are not confined to one particular group; we’re dedicated to providing services that are inclusive and accessible to all.

In an ever-changing world, JFS remains steadfast in its commitment to serving people throughout Greater Rochester. JFS continues to adapt and evolve to meet the changing needs of our community. All JFS programs and services aptly represent our core value: “For Good. JFS offers a wide range of programs and services, including counseling and therapy for people of all ages from all backgrounds, respite care and care management for older adults, financial assistance, support groups, and job search and career development assistance.

The counseling and therapy services provided by JFS are essential to addressing the emotional and mental health needs throughout the Greater Rochester community. These services can help individuals and families to cope with stress, anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges. Counseling offered by JFS includes services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. The respite care and care management programs offered by JFS are also critical to maintaining the well-being of older adults and their caregivers. The array of support groups offered by JFS are a valuable resource for parents, caregivers and others. These groups provide a safe space where individuals can come together, share their experiences, and offer support and encouragement to one another.

The Basic Needs programs offered by JFS are designed to address the most pressing and fundamental human needs of the community. These programs provide essential support and resources to individuals and families who are struggling and need support, regardless of their background. JFS’s Basic Needs programs include financial assistance, food support, and energy assistance. JFS’s financial assistance programs are also vital in addressing the basic needs of individuals and families, regardless of their religious affiliation. These programs can provide financial support for things such as in-home care, adult day care, and medical equipment. This can help alleviate some of the financial burden that caregivers may be facing.
